Cyprus, known as the small pearl of the Mediterranean, is an island with rich history, diverse culture and natural beauty. North Cyprus has six districts; Nicosia, Kyrenia, Famagusta, Morphou, İskele and Lefke.
Cyprus International University, founded in 1997 in Nicosia, the capital of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), is a symbol of the contemporary facade of Cyprus, one of the most cultural and historical centers in the Mediterranean. Cyprus lies at the cross-roads of countless ancient civilizations over thousands of years. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus-the northern part of the island-has a reputation as one of the safest countries in the world, with year round beautiful Mediterranean weather and the luxury of being rich in natural and cultural beauty. TRNC is an ideal destination for higher education where students from 106 different nationalities call the island their home. With its untouched natural beauty and endemic flora as well as golden sandy beaches, the students’ academic journey turns into a unique experience.

Life as a student in Nicosia

North Cyprus is a popular study destination because of the quality education provided. Nicosia, the capital of North Cyprus, where the campus is located, is a multicultural place to live as it has been influenced by many cultures throughout its history. Students can enjoy feeling like they have been thrown back in history as they visit over 100 different historical sites left behind by 12 different civilizations. On weekends and school holidays, students can visit the world-class untouched beaches of Cyprus, as Nicosia is only 15 minutes away from Kyrenia and 40 minutes away from Famagusta. Being the most populated city in TRNC, students have unique opportunities to take part in many cultural and social events and activities and enjoy a variety of cafés, restaurants and shops.

Cyprus Food and Culture

Climate: With sunny and open weather conditions and the warm weather on at least 300 days of the year, Cyprus provides ideal weather conditions for education. Cyprus is in the Mediterranean climate zone so the summers are warm and dry, while the winters are warm and rainy. The average annual precipitation is 500 mm. Average temperatures vary between 20-30 ° C in summer and 5-15 ° C in winter.

Electricity: The electricity in TRNC is the same as in Turkey and is 220/240V A/C 50Hz and three-pronged plugs are used. In order to use all kinds of electric equipment easily, adapters which convert twin sockets to triple sockets, can easily be found in all supermarkets for a reasonable price.

Traffic: The traffic flows from the left lane in North Cyprus. Students who hold an international driving license, or valid license for the related vehicle class from their home country are allowed to drive in North Cyprus.

Language: Official language is Turkish. However, the language spoken by the public has a Turkish Cypriot dialect.

Time: UTC +3 in the summer and UTC +2 in the winter are used in the TRNC.

Currency Unit: The currency in circulation is the Turkish Lira.

Public Transportation: One of the public transportation methods you can use for daily transportation is buses. You can find these transportations in each city at the bus terminals in your area or from the points on the itinerary.
